Grinded aesthetic surface of stainless steel sheet metal parts

In some industries it is of the outmost importance that the fabricated sheet metal surface should not only be aesthetic, but it also has to meet serious hygiene requirements. We have developed a grinding process for this, so that the surface of the stainless steel part fully meets the expectations.

Stainless steel sheet metal fabricated part - a machine cover - is getting a grinded finish on the film.

During this sheet metal fabrication project, together with our Customer we have developed a grinding process that meets the high quality surface requirements of the cut, bent, welded and polished parts.

On the film we produce a different grinding quality than the standard grinding of the ready polished sheet metal. As a result of the grinding process, in addition to bringing the weld seams into an aesthetic look, the large sheet metal surfaces also show a homogeneous grinding image. In some industries, it is extremely important that the fabricated part surface is not only aesthetic, but it also has to meet serious hygiene requirements. In this case, for example, the surface of the part must withstand bacterial contamination. After the grinding, the stainless steel sheet metal part is provided with a protective film to protect it from possible damage during storage and transport.

The grinding process is performed using a Kuhlmeyer ZBS Robotec Dual Belt automatic grinding machine. The advantage of this equipment is that with the two strips a part can be grinded with a single grip. Smaller and larger workpieces can be processed automatically and manually too. The latter can be seen on the film.

This grinding technology has many advantages:
- we get a very good surface to meet extremely high aesthetic and hygienic needs
- a unique grinding quality image can be gained
- the process can be partially automated

At the same time, we have to take into account that this processing form is very time consuming, entails a considerable loss of abrasive material and last but not least, requires considerable professional experience and expertise. Gaining an extra surface is labour intensive and developing a unique grinding image requires a lot of experience and effort.

Of course, we decide on applying the technology in partnership with our customers considering all of the above factors.
