1, Formula Student
The Formula Student is the name for a car race series organised all over the world for university teams, in which participants compete with the cars they design and build. In addition to the design and construction of the car, the competition consists of the development and presentation of the complete business concept built around the race car and the provision of the financial background necessary for the operation of the project. As the best Hungarian team, 15-year-old BME FRT also holds its place internationally, in 2021 they won several podium places and finished the season 11th in the world rankings competing with more than two hundred other teams.
2, Our cooperation
The work together with university students began in 2015, and since then we have been continuously providing sheet metal part design and manufacturing support to the students who come out with a new racing car model each year. The team organized the jubilee car show Rollout on May 23rd this year at the Hungaroring, where their electric and self-driving race car "Lola" built for this year's racing season, was unveiled.
3, The 2022 race car " Lola"
This year's car is designed so that the traditional, manual version can be converted into self-driving in a short time, which means significant savings in the design and production phase and what is more the car can be launched in two separate race categories. "Lola", an electric four-wheel drive, accelerated to 100km/h in 2.4 seconds on the show.
4, This year's joint work
Bendegúz Madácsi, the captain of the BME Formula Racing Team, commented on the sheet metal fabricated parts manufactured by Melior Laser and installed in the racing car:
"Melior Laser was already involved in the design phase, helping to ensure that our parts were designed right from the manufacturability aspect too. Before the part production, we had the opportunity to have a guided tour of their fabrication plant, where they showed us the machines used for production. The designed parts were manufactured in a very short time, in very high quality, despite the fact that the requested parts included more complex, multiple-bent parts too.
The fabricated parts:
This year the team will compete in 3 races:
We wish them a successful season and we are proud of contributing to their success!
