Powder coating of medical device parts - video

The film is a footage about the powder coating process of sheet metal parts made of structural steel for the instrument industry . Detailed description in the post.

Our customers, including the ones from the device and electronics industries, place particularly high quality demands on us. Complexity as a customer expectation for our sheet metal products is also a serious professional challenge. In order to meet these expectations as much as possible, we built a unique electrostatic powder coating line az our plant. High levels of automation and efficiency were our guiding principles in the design and construction of our own powder coating line.

Our complex sheet metal parts undergo this surface treatment step before mechanical assembly, if required.
The powder coated surface is very popular because it is highly resistant to corrosion effects as well as meeting a high degree of aesthetic requirements.

In our short film, we see a footage of our powder coating system optimized for series production. We are performing the surface treatment of 3 mm non-alloy structural steel elements, which are used as mechanical elements of a medical device before further assembly operations.

As a first step, the sheet metal parts go through the chemical cleaning system on an automatically controlled conveyor belt. This pretreatment line works with zirconium nanotechnology which is an environmentally friendly technology.
In the next step, the parts are sent to the dryer and then to the powder coating cabin. Here, the concentration of chemicals is controlled by continuous pH measurement and also automated chemical dispensers help to achieve excellent painting quality. At any time, one can constantly check how much paint is in the system and how much paint has been already added to the part.
The painted parts eventually go to the electric fusing oven at the top of the plant. At high temperatures, the paint cures / hardens on the surface. Because of the location of the oven the process contributes to the environmentally friendly production with using less energy.

The line operates with the least human intervention. Achieving the highest quality and saving energy were the main considerations when designing the powder coating system.
