As one of our recent sheet metal fabrication tasks, we have been manufacturing aluminum enclosures in medium series (a few hundred pieces) for our Hungarian electronics business partner. The raw material of the enclosures was 1.5mm thick AlMg3 H111 aluminum alloy material. This material is of medium strength, non-curable, with very good corrosion resistance, good resistance to sea water and tropical conditions, and typically with very good chemical resistance.
As part of the production process, as a first step punching as mechanical cutting was carried out, then laser cutting on the same Trumpf Trumatic 3000 combi laser-punch machine. In the next step, we performed the bending task on an Amada press brake. At the end of the process, the component was chromated to achieve a decorative finish.
In-process surface protection was of great importance for this project. The final surface treatment did not allow for in-process damage to the part surface.
